The Panama Papers jail: Architects create concept prison ship that can hold 3,300 tax-avoiders in Game of Thrones-style 'sky cells'

  • Last year, 11 million financial documents dubbed the Panama Papers were leaked from a law firm
  • The leaked papers show how the world's rich and powerful use offshore tax havens to hide their wealth
  • Architects have drawn up plans for a giant boat that could hold 3,300 prisoners in its paper sails
  • The cargo hold contains a sea water-treatment plant, workshops and a gym while the sails are prison cells

A giant jail ship with thousands of pods similar to the 'sky cells' that kept Tyrion Lannister risoner in Game of Thrones has been designed by architects.
Designers have drawn up plans for a giant boat that could hold 3,300 prisoners in its paper sails.
They say the ship is designed to be a prison for the tax-avoiders named and shamed in the Panama Papers.

PANAMA PAPERS JAIL

  • Holds 3,300 prisoners in sails
  • Each sail is 350-metres (1,148ft) long and 100-metres (328ft) high
  • Every cell would be nine square metres (30 sq ft) in size
  • Ship functions autonomously

The leaked papers show how the world's rich and powerful use offshore tax havens to hide their wealth.
Now designers have released concept artwork for the 'Panama Papers Jail' (PPJ).
Architects said the ship's open-air prison cells would be made from paper and make up the boat's giant sails.

The small and dingy cells of the ship are designed to stack on top of one another like the 'sky cells' of Eyrie, which are on the side of a mountain's sheer cliffs

'Panama Papers' Jail is a prison made with paper cells,' said designers Axel de Stampa, Sylvain Macaux and Guillaume Devaux, from the Ecole d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville.
'The prison is built on a cargo boat located in the international waters facing Panama City.
'Its design opposes two colossal prison 'sails', one for men and one for women.'
